I had this all figured out, or so I thought. I started this blog in November 2013, with no prior experience of blogging. I had read the odd blog post here and there, but I had never been a regular reader of a blog so my knowledge of the blogging world was very limited. Oh how my world has changed in such a short space of time!
Anyway, before I digress, I am re-writing/editing this little section about why I am blogging. The reason? Well, being new and all to the blogging world I am taking on the Zero to Hero Challenge: 30 days to a better blog. Yesterday’s challenge was to write and publish a “who I am and why I’m here” post. Well I felt quite smug as I had only recently done this, but on reflection, and after reading a lot of other fascinating blogs from others taking part in the challenge, I really felt that this section could do with a bit more work so here I am.
What topics do you think you’ll write about?
When I started this blog many many days ago, (maybe 50 whole days?) my sole purpose was to write about my latest personal challenge. In May 2015 I will be trekking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu to raise a minimum of £3800 for my local hospice. I wanted to use this blog as a platform to keep my family, friends and supporters updated with my fundraising and training activities, and also to keep a record for myself.
Having visited a number of blogs in the past 24 hours which cover a whole range of topics I think I’d best spice things up a little and add in the odd post about something other than my fundraising and preparation. What might these spicy new posts be about? Well, based on my interests and lifestyle I think we can expect the odd post about movies – I am a massive movie geek, I just love them. I even went through IMDb to rate as many movies as possible that I could remember watching all the way through, that took quite some time, and every now and then I come across a movie that I’ve seen and haven’t rated yet, shocking. Whoops there, getting a little sidetracked! I may throw in the odd post about Tom Hardy, he’s the most amazing actor, I’m a huge huge fan and can talk about him for hours, (literally!). I have three furry babies; a cat, a kitten and a rabbit, that I can’t stop talking about so no doubt they will make the odd appearance, and quite possibly the other half might get a mention here and there – if he’s good…. or, if he’s bad!
Why are you blogging, rather than keeping a personal journal?
OK, this was the first question, but I felt that the explanation about expected topic posts would provide you with a bit of context before I delved in to this question. Why am I blogging instead of keeping a personal journal? Because I want to keep my supporters up to date with my progress and hopefully encourage more donations – a personal journal can’t really do that for me.
Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
Tom Hardy, simples! That does seem unlikely, so I would be extremely happy to connect with like minded people, from all different cultures and backgrounds so that I can learn from them. If I am lucky enough to connect with people who have done similar challenges and/or been involved with fundraising then a few hints and tips would be well appreciated.
If you blog successfully throughout 2014, what would you hope to have accomplished?
I’d like to think that I would have developed a good understanding of the blogging world and how it all works. I have come a long way in the short time since starting this blog so I think I’m on track with that. I hope to have improved my writing, (it hasn’t had much love since I left University) and have entertaining, well written posts to attract more followers.
I think that just about sums it up so I’ll leave it there. Thanks for stopping by, I hope to see you here again soon!
